About Croix Valley

Where We Came From:  

Croix Valley Sauces sprang to life in a small kitchen in the Northwoods of Wisconsin in 1996 when our family opened a steakhouse and began serving every meal with a side of our homemade steak sauce. It took one taste and customers immediately began clambering for our product. After a decade of requests to bottle and sell it for home use, we decided that it was about time we did something about it. In 2009, we began producing our steak sauces for retail sale and finally brought Croix Valley Sauces to the market.

Where We Are Today:  

Croix Valley Sauces moved beyond steak sauce to include marinades, barbecue sauces, dry rubs, Bloody Mary Seasonings and more. Outgrowing our first production facility in Hudson, WI after a year and a half of hand-crafting our award-winning sauces, Croix Valley built a new production factory in River Falls, WI in 2012 where we currently produce our products.   Found in grocery stores, meat markets, specialty food shops and fine restaurants across the country, our products are continuously finding acclaim and winning awards.

About the Owners: 

Damon Holter
Damon Holter
After spending 15 years in the restaurant industry, Damon Holter turned his attention to manufacturing his acclaimed steak sauce and started Croix Valley Foods.  Damon's recipes for Croix Valley Foods products have garnered countless international industry awards and recognition since the company began, catapulting him into the barbecue industry spotlight and opening doors.  

Damon is not only an owner of Croix Valley Foods, but is also a barbecue and grilling expert.  Bringing his expertise to the world of food sport, he has won numerous awards and accolades throughout the country in hundreds of events and professional competitions. 

Damon is a regular on TV in his hometown of the Twin Cities metropolitan area and was featured on Travel Channel’s series “American Grilled”. He also hosted 13 episodes for Outside Television Network’s “Fired Up Food” pulling in 204,800 viewers per episode.

Talented not just in business, grilling and TV – Damon is an avid outdoorsman, a world record holding fisherman, wildlife artist, and an accomplished musician.

 

Lu Holter

Lu Holter

After spending 10 years in the legal field, Lu put her efforts behind Croix Valley Foods to manufacture and market the award-winning product line full time.  Together with Damon, Lu formed the Croix Valley Sauces Competition Cooking Team, where her mastery of the art of barbecue thrust her into the arena of competition cooking.

As an avid food sport competitor, Lu has won numerous awards nation-wide in professional cooking competitions, including Kansas City Barbeque Society competitions, Steak Cookoff Association contests and the World Food Championships. Desiring to become more involved in food sport, Lu was elected to the Board of Directors of the Minnesota Barbeque Society where she continues to help shape the organization and promote barbecue and grilling in the Midwest.

In addition to her role as a Croix Valley owner and barbecue expert, Lu also loves to be outdoors, cultivate the koi in her backyard pond and spend time fishing and kayaking.
